Yankees prospects Brock Selvage Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com reports that he underwent an internal brace procedure on his left elbow and will miss the 2026 season as a result.
Selected by the Yankees as a third-round pick in 2021, Selvidge, now 23, was not included in the team’s 40-man roster and went unclaimed in December’s Rule 5 draft. He was still a candidate to make his big league debut at some point in 2026, after a second season in Double-A in 2025 where he posted a 4.68 ERA, 18.9% strikeout rate and 12.2% walk rate. He pitched two scoreless spring innings with a 4:1 K/BB ratio.
Baseball America ranked Selvidge 12th among Yankees farmhands heading into the 2026 season, labeling him as a potential fourth or fifth starter who boasts a five-pitch arsenal that includes an above-average four-seamer, cutter and sweeper.
Injuries are not necessarily new for Selvidge. He was named to the 2024 roster for the Futures Game, held annually during the MLB All-Star break, but had to withdraw from the event due to a pinched nerve in his left forearm. He posted a 3.25 ERA and 24.6% strikeout rate in his first 12 starts of the year, but allowed 17 runs (7.29 ERA) in his final 21 innings before being placed on the disabled list in early July. He suffered an injury that required surgery in September 2024 and was sidelined until the end of May last season while he recovered.
The 2026 season will mark Selvidge’s third straight season with arm injuries limiting his workload. By the time he passes the mound in 2027, he will have pitched 167 2/3 innings over three years despite being a regular starting pitcher.
Since Selvidge is not on the major league roster, he will not reach the 60-day IL and receive big league service or salary. He wasn’t likely to be an option early in the season anyway, but he’s now out of the running to make an appearance later this summer.
