Lindsey Hibbs and Jayden Shaw scored as the U.S. women’s national team defeated Argentina 2-0 in its opening game of the SheBelieves Cup on Sunday in Nashville, Tennessee.

Heaps made it 1-0 in the 19th minute and Shaw doubled the count in the 56th minute.

It was no surprise that Heaps scored. Her veteran presence helped the U.S. against Argentina, and her goal marked the 12th consecutive time she has scored for the U.S.

Her 39 career goals came in 171 games. Meanwhile, the remaining 10 starting pitchers appeared in a combined 110 games.

The United States went 9-0-2 in its first SheBelieves Cup match. This is a big reason why the USWNT has won seven of the ten tournaments it has played. Although Japan won last year.

Before the Americans is Canada in Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday. Canada beat Colombia 4-1 on Sunday. Colombia will face Argentina in the first game of the Ohio doubleheader.

The tournament concludes on March 7 in Harrison, New Jersey, with Canada taking on Argentina and the United States taking on Colombia.

The winner is determined by points. A win is worth 3 points, a tie after regulation is worth 1 point, and a penalty shootout win is worth 1 point.

Hibbs put the U.S. in front thanks to a strong run by Emma Sears, who dribbled through three players near the right endline before sending a crisp ball to Hibbs at the top of the box. After catching the ball with his right foot, he fired a curling left-footed shot toward the upper left corner.

Jameese Joseph appeared to make it 2-0 two minutes later, but she was ruled offside, leaving the Americans embarrassed. VAR is not used in the tournament.

Shaw scored his 10th goal for the United States with an assist from Heaps. Shaw was unmarked at the top of the box and as her shot went up, the ball went through the hands of goalkeeper Solana Pereira.

Claudia Dickey made one save for the United States.

US forward Trinity Rodman left in added time in the second half after being tended to for several minutes after holding her back after a hard foul.
