Explosions are heard in Iran, Israel and several Middle Eastern states after the United States and Israel began attacking Iran on Saturday.
Tehran has responded by launching waves of missiles and drones at Israel and at several military bases in the Middle East where US forces operate.
Iran had previously warned that if attacked, it would respond by attacking US military facilities across the region, which it considers legitimate targets.
What countries have been attacked?
Israel’s air force says it dropped more than 1,200 munitions in 24 of Iran’s 31 provinces over the past day in its joint strike with the United States.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it has launched attacks on 27 bases in the Middle East where US troops are deployed, as well as Israeli military facilities in Tel Aviv and other parts of Israel.
So far, Iran has launched attacks in eight countries in the region: Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Most of these attacks have been intercepted.

US military presence in the Middle East
The United States has operated military bases in the Middle East for decades.
According to the Council on Foreign Relations, the United States operates an extensive network of military sites, both permanent and temporary, in at least 19 locations in the region.
Of these, eight are permanent bases in Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
By mid-2025, there are between 40,000 and 50,000 US troops in the Middle East stationed at both large permanent bases and smaller forward sites.
The countries with the most American soldiers are Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. These facilities serve as critical centers for U.S. air and naval operations, regional logistics, intelligence gathering, and force projection.

How many people have been killed or injured?
Below are the confirmed victims in the 10 countries that have been targeted as of Sunday at 13:40 GMT.
Due to the rapidly evolving situation, all figures may change as more information becomes available.
Iran – dead: 201, injured: 747
As of Sunday morning, the Iranian Red Crescent Society and state-linked official media had reported preliminary casualty figures of 201 people dead and at least 747 injured as rescue operations continue.
Since then, explosions continue to be heard across Iran and Israel says it has carried out a major airstrike against the “heart of the capital.”
The deadliest incident occurred in the southeastern Iranian city of Minab, where an attack on a girls’ primary school reportedly killed at least 148 people and injured 95. The attack occurred on Saturday and the death toll has been rising since then.
Israel – dead: 9, injured: 121
On Sunday afternoon, an Iranian ballistic missile attack on Beit Shemesh in central Israel killed eight people and injured about 20. Rescuers are still sifting through the rubble.
Late Saturday, a woman was confirmed dead in the Tel Aviv area after being hit by falling shrapnel.
At least 121 other people have been reported injured, at least one seriously.
At least 40 buildings in Tel Aviv were damaged in Saturday’s Iranian attacks, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported, citing the city government.

Bahrain – dead: 0, injured: 4
Iranian missiles targeted the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters in the Juffair area of Bahrain.
Bahrain’s Interior Ministry also confirmed that the country’s international airport was attacked with a drone, “causing property damage without loss of life.”
On Saturday night, several residential buildings in the capital Manama were attacked by Iranian drones.
Government hospitals said four people were being treated for shrapnel-related injuries.

Iraq – dead: 2, injured: 5
The United States and Israel also attacked the Jurf al-Sakher base, also known as Jurf al-Nasr, in southern Iraq, which houses the Popular Mobilization Forces, made up of mostly Shiite fighters, and the Iranian-backed Iraqi paramilitary group Kataib Hezbollah.
Iraqi state media and sources within Kataib Hezbollah confirmed that two fighters were killed in the attacks and five were wounded.
In the semi-autonomous Kurdish region of northern Iraq, where the United States is reported to still have troops, several powerful explosions were reported near the American consulate and Erbil international airport.
Air defenses reportedly intercepted the drone attacks on Saturday.

Jordan – dead: 0, injured: 0
The Jordanian armed forces reported intercepting 49 drones and ballistic missiles that entered Jordanian airspace. Although its fragments caused localized material damage, there have been no deaths or injuries within the kingdom.
Kuwait – killed: 1, injured: 32
Kuwait’s Defense Ministry says the Ali al-Salem air base was attacked by several ballistic missiles, all of which were intercepted by Kuwaiti air defense systems.
A drone attacked Kuwait International Airport on Saturday, causing minor injuries to several employees and limited damage to the passenger building.
On Sunday, Kuwait’s Health Ministry said one person had died and 32 had been injured.

Oman – dead: 0, injured: 5
On Sunday morning, the Oman News Agency, citing a security source, said that two drones had attacked the port of Duqm, injuring a foreign worker.
Later, Oman’s Maritime Safety Center said a Palauan-flagged oil tanker was “attacked about 5 nautical miles (9 kilometers) from Oman’s Musandam governorate, injuring four people.”
Qatar – dead: 0, injured: 16
As of Sunday morning, Qatar’s Interior Ministry confirmed that the number of injured was 16 people. Most of the injuries were reported to be from falling shrapnel and debris, and one person was seriously injured.
Qatar’s Defense Ministry confirmed that two ballistic missiles hit the Al Udeid military base, where US forces are stationed, while a drone targeted an early warning radar installation.
Qatar’s air defense systems, in coordination with regional partners, successfully intercepted some 65 missiles and 12 drones over Qatari airspace, he said.
The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority suspended all air navigation indefinitely. Qatar Airways suspended all flights and advised passengers that updates will be provided on Monday at 9:00 a.m. (06:00 GMT).
All schools moved to remote learning and public gatherings during Ramadan were suspended until further notice to ensure public safety.
Saudi Arabia – dead: 0, injured: 0
The Saudi Foreign Ministry confirmed that the Iranian strikes targeted both the capital, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, which is home to major oil infrastructure and the King Abdulaziz air base.
The kingdom had not officially reported any casualties as of Sunday afternoon.
United Arab Emirates – dead: 3, injured: 58
As of Sunday afternoon, at least three people have been confirmed dead in the United Arab Emirates and 58 others have been injured.
A Pakistani national was killed and seven people were injured when debris from intercepted missiles and drones fell on a residential area near Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi.
The Ministry of Defense confirmed that another individual, identified as an Asian citizen, died from falling shrapnel in a residential neighborhood of the capital.
Additionally, four Dubai International Airport employees were injured and four people were injured on Palm Jumeirah after a building fire caused by falling debris.
As of Sunday afternoon, the UAE Defense Ministry says it has detected 165 ballistic missiles, destroyed 152 and intercepted two cruise missiles.
