Prime Minister Mark Carney will have an audience with King Charles III as part of his upcoming visit to the United Kingdom, the Prime Minister’s Office said.
The March 16 afternoon meeting will be the third time Carney and King have met since becoming prime ministers a year ago.
The first was an audience in London in March 2025, followed by Charles’ visit to Canada in May of last year.
During his trip to Canada, King Charles delivered the Throne Speech in Parliament, the first time a British monarch has done so in decades. The moment was steeped in symbolism amid US President Donald Trump’s trade war with Canada and attacks on its sovereignty.
King Charles met with Canadian indigenous leaders on Wednesday, where the grand chief of the Confederation of Treaty Six First Nations said the king had “expressed his concerns” about potential Alberta secession.
Asked about that meeting at an event in Yellowknife on Thursday, Carney wouldn’t say whether he would broach the subject with Charles.

“Her Majesty, in all my experience, takes a keen interest in the rights of indigenous peoples,” he said.
“I don’t want to prejudge the discussion we’re having. He’s had a pretty full discussion with the six heads of the pact over the last 48 hours and he and I have a lot of things to raise.”
Carney will meet British Prime Minister Keir Stormer while in London as part of his latest international tour to both Norway and the UK.
Carney will arrive in London on Sunday after visiting Norway to observe NATO cold response exercises and attend a Nordic-Canada Council summit.
The Prime Minister will tour Europe after March break before returning to Canada.
Carney defended his schedule Thursday to reporters who questioned the timing of the vacation amid the growing Middle East conflict and other pressing issues at home and abroad.
“I’m as visible as needed and always in touch,” he said.
“I would reinforce that one of the strengths of this government is that we have a strong cabinet. And … I’d like to think that one of my characteristics as prime minister is that I empower my ministers. So you have reason to ask a lot from the minister of national defence, the minister of foreign affairs, the minister of public safety, because I’m at the forefront of these issues.”
