Minnesota United visits Nashville SC on Saturday, with both teams looking to continue their undefeated starts to the season.

Minnesota and Nashville have identical 1-0-1 records through their first two games of the MLS campaign. Nashville also won its first two games in CONCACAF Champions Cup play, beating Atletico Ottawa by a cumulative 7–0.

After a lopsided win and a 4-1 win over the New England Revolution in their MLS season opener, Nashville SC faced more adversity last Saturday in a 0-0 draw with FC Dallas. Nashville had just one shot on target against Dallas and the visitors were forced to play with 10 men after Matthew Corcoran received a red card in the 84th minute.

“It’s early in the season, so the expectation in our building is that we’re not the final product,” Nashville coach BJ Callaghan said. “We don’t want to be the final product, we’re going to get a little better every day.”

Sam Surridge sat out the game against Dallas due to illness, but is available for the lineup on Saturday. Surridge scored a brace against New England on February 21.

Kelvin Yeboah also had two goals in Minnesota’s first two games. The striker scored the equalizer in the 90th minute of a 2-2 draw with Austin FC on February 21, and Yeboah’s 66th-minute header was the only goal in the Loans’ 1-0 win over FC Cincinnati last Saturday.

James Rodriguez will eventually team up with Yeboah in attack, but the star offseason signing’s MLS debut could be pushed back a week. Rodriguez was listed as questionable on Saturday after leaving Thursday’s training session with a bruise, according to Minnesota United coach Cameron Knowles.

“(We’re) anticipating him every day. It’s really just an out of an abundance of caution,” Knowles said. “We’ll go back and see how he is on Monday.”

Veteran Minnesota defenseman Michael Boxall will miss the game with an adductor injury.

Saturday’s game is only the fourth regular season game between Minnesota and Nashville, and the first since the Loons’ 2-1 win on Aug. 14, 2022.
