Tundra Esports defeated Aurora Gaming 3-1 in the DreamLeague Season 28 finals on Sunday to claim the $250,000 first-place prize.
Tundra also earned 5,010 ESL Pro Tour points and $40,000 worth of additional club rewards. After finishing second in Group Stage 2, Tundra advanced to the finals with a 2-0 win over Team Liquid in the upper bracket finals on Saturday.
Aurora took home the second-place prize of $100,000, while Liquid, who went a perfect 7-0 in Group Stage 2 and was the top overall seed, took third place and $80,000.
Aurora and Liquid met in the lower bracket finals on Sunday morning, with Aurora winning in 37 and 35 minutes on Green. Two Aurora players, Russia’s Egor “Nightfall” Grigorenko and Ukraine’s Artem “lorenof” Melnyk, each had 17 kills in the match.
In the final, Tundra won by 42 minutes on red, also 28 minutes downwind on red. Aurora survived by taking the next map in 32 minutes on green, but Tundra took the win in 47 minutes on green.
Bulgaria’s Bozhidar “bzm” Bogdanov led the Tundra in the finals with an average kill-death-assist ratio of 9.3-3.0-9.8.
The $1 million Dota 2 event kicked off with 16 teams split into two groups of eight teams to compete in a round robin stage. Every series consisted of two games, with the top four teams from each group advancing to Group Stage 2, which was played in a single round-robin format of best-of-three matches until Friday.
The playoffs were played as a best-of-three series until the finals, which were best-of-five matches.
