Three Americans were traded before the NHL trade deadline.


The 2025-26 National Hockey League trade deadline takes place on Friday. According to Rogers Sportsnet, in the last 24 hours we’ve seen three Americans move on. Let’s take a look at who they are.

Nick Blankenberg

A good name for a defenseman, Blankenburg is being traded from the Nashville Predators to the Colorado Avalanche for a fifth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft.

A native of Washington, Michigan, Blankenburg is currently a member of one of the best teams in the National Hockey League. The Avalanche have 91 points, six more than the red-hot Dallas Stars.

In his NHL career, Blankenburg spent three seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets and the final two seasons with the Nashville Predators.

In 2025-26, Blankenberg had six goals and 15 assists for 21 points. He is -11 with 10 penalty minutes, 7 power play points, 59 shots on goal, 51 blocked shots, 47 hits, 15 takeaways and 52 giveaways.

Nick Dowd

Dowd is being traded from the Washington Capitals to the Vegas Golden Knights for goaltending prospect Jesper Vikman from Danderrid, Sweden, a 2029 second-round pick and a 2027 third-round pick.

Dowd, a center from Huntsville, Alabama, joins his fourth NHL team after spending three seasons with the Los Angeles Kings, one season with the Vancouver Canucks and the past eight seasons with the Capitals.

In 2025-26, Daoud recorded four goals, 12 assists and 16 points in 55 games. He is -6 with 53 penalty minutes, 48 ​​shots on goal, 373 faceoff wins, 43 blocked shots, 113 hits, 15 takeaways and 36 giveaways.

Jeff Petrie

Petrie, a veteran defenseman from Ann Arbor, Michigan, is being traded from the Florida Panthers to the Minnesota Wild for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2026. So far in 2025-26, he has 8 points and 8 assists in 58 games.

Over the past 16 seasons, Petry has played for five different teams. They are the Edmonton Oilers, Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, and Florida Panthers.
