Mandatory Credit: Sergei Belski-Imagn Image Sam Steel scored twice in a 3-point game and Matt Duchene had a career-high four assists to help the Dallas Stars snap their franchise-record-extending 10th straight win with a 6-1 win over the host Calgary Flames on Tuesday.
Jamie Benn and Wyatt Johnston both had one goal and one assist, while Mavrik Bourque and Nathan Bastian played on back-to-back nights to outscore their opponents 12-2 in a two-game road swing.
Dallas goalie Casey Desmith made 20 saves and Jason Robertson had two assists.
Duchene, who recorded a career high with 4 points, has 17 points (8 goals, 9 assists) in 10 games.
Morgan Frost led the Flames to just three wins in 12 games (3-6-3).
Calgary’s starting goalie Dustin Wolff was pulled after giving up four goals on 17 shots. Devin Cooley stopped 16 shots in cleanup duties, 13 of which came in a one-sided third quarter in which his team offered little late pushback.
The Steel opened the scoring 8:44 into the game with a nice change of direction, and Frost tied it 68 seconds later when he blocked Blake Coleman’s pass.
The Stars started the game just past the middle of the first period.
Benn put the visitors ahead at 11:54 with a quick try from the deep slot, his 10th of the season, beating Wolf short wide.
Bourque deflected a point shot into the cage at 2:26 of the frame to start a four-goal second period for Dallas.
The Steel scored their second collision less than four minutes later with a one-timer from the right faceoff dot, which meant the game was over for the Wolf.
The goalkeeper change had no effect. Bastian made it 5-1 with another lopsided tally at 8:48 of the period. Johnston extended the advantage further by scoring on a power play with 19 seconds left in the second intermission.
The club went through a scoreless third period thanks to Cooley’s efforts.
