Wyatt Johnston and Nathan Bastian scored in regulation, and Jason Robertson added the overtime winner as the Stars erased a 2-0 deficit to beat the Nashville Predators 3-2 on Saturday.
Jake Oettinger, making his first start since winning gold with Team USA at the Olympics, made 25 saves as the Stars tied their franchise record for back-to-back wins. Dallas has won 9 of 10 overall.
With this win, the Stars recorded their sixth multi-goal comeback.
“I think our confidence is growing more and more as we’ve won in a row,” Stars defenseman Esa Lindell said. “The simpler things have gotten better lately, and the physical play has been effective even though it looks pretty simple.” “I think we just stuck with it and kept working.
“Especially in the second period, I thought the direction started to change in our favor, but I think we kept pushing and got the award in the third period and ended up winning in OT.”
Missing Mikko Rantanen, Roope Hintz, Radek Faksa and others, the Stars, second in the Western Conference, continue to find ways to win games. Dallas hasn’t lost since Jan. 22.
“I think it’s a positive sign of a good hockey team if they can continue to win hockey games despite missing a key player like that,” said Bastian, whose team has gone through a nine-game goalless drought. “People like us may not have all the skills, but we can make up for it in other areas.
“Maybe once I get a little bit more physically fit and get a little more ice time, I’ll feel a little more confident and all of a sudden I’ll be able to play well.”
Monday marks the third and final meeting between the Canucks and Stars. Vancouver beat Dallas 5-3 on Oct. 16, and the Stars doubled the Canucks 4-2 on Nov. 20.
The Canucks, on the other side of the Western Conference standings, begin a short two-game homestand after losing 5-1 at Seattle on Saturday.
Liam Ogren scored the Canucks’ lone goal and Kevin Lankinen made 20 saves for Vancouver, which has lost five straight and has won just two of its last 21 games (2-15-4).
“We made some mistakes early on that they capitalized on. We knew we couldn’t do that, but we did it,” Canucks coach Adam Foote said. “We were close, closer than the score said.”
Forward Elias Peterson, who leads the Canucks with 35 points in 51 games this season, was benched for the final 10 minutes of Saturday’s third period as Foote attempted to send a message to the veteran.
“He has to get better and he knows it. He knows it,” Foote said. “He needs to play with more power, speed up his game, be more engaged, and once he gets his motor going, good things will happen and he knows it, so I’m sure we’ll see it in the next game.”
