As with the 2023-24 season, the Kraken re-signed Eberle. This time it’s a two-year deal with a reported average annual value of $5.5 million.
The Kraken, who host the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, also beat Friday’s 3 PM ET deadline by signing forward Bobby McMahon from Toronto. The 29-year-old, who will become a free agent at the end of the season, reportedly gave Seattle a second-round pick in 2027 and a fourth-round pick this summer. McMahon has 19 goals and 32 points in 60 games for the Maple Leafs this season.
The Kraken were looking to bolster an offense that ranked 24th out of the 32-team league in scoring.
“There are a lot of things I really like about our hockey team,” Kraken coach Lane Lambert said ahead of the deadline. “I’ve been on teams in the past where things got a little messy (because of the shaking), but I’ve also been on teams where it helped. So do your homework, do your research, make sure you know what you’re doing and what you need.”
The Kraken are 2-1-0 midway through a six-game homestand after losing 3-2 to St. Louis on Wednesday. Seattle currently holds the second and final wild card spot in the Western Conference.
Eberle leads the Kraken with 22 goals and 42 points in 59 games.
“I’ve always wanted to stay here. I think I’ve expressed that. My family, myself, we love the city of Seattle, the ownership group, everything, the commitment they have to winning. I just came on board,” Eberle said after signing his new contract. “And with the situation we’re in, we definitely have a chance to make the playoffs, and not only that, but we’re also in a position to go deep in the playoffs. It’s been an exciting year and it’s only going to be exciting from here on out with every meaningful game we play.”
The Senators are 2-0-1 on a five-game road trip that ends Monday in Vancouver and have a five-game winning streak (3-0-2) heading into their last outing before the Olympic break. They are four points out of the last wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
They also closed a few deals before the deadline. On Thursday, they acquired forward Warren Vogele from the Los Angeles Kings for a second-round pick and a conditional third-rounder in 2026, and sent veteran forward David Perron to Detroit for a conditional pick this summer.
Vogele, 29, is having back-to-back 20-goal seasons, including a career-high 24 goals last year, but has scored just nine points (seven goals, two assists) in the injury-plagued 2025-26 season.
“(Thursday) was a weird day in the sense that I was getting ready for the game. I woke up from a nap and was going about my normal routine and then I got a call from (Kings general manager) Ken Holland telling me they were moving me to Ottawa,” Foegele said. “It’s been a whirlwind of a last 24 hours, but I’m very happy. Obviously my family at home (in Markham, a suburb just north of Toronto) are very happy that we don’t have to stay up late to watch the game on the West Coast.”
Foegele has one season remaining on a three-year contract with the Kings in 2024 with an annual cap hit of $3.5 million.
“I think I know about five people on the team, so every time I transition it makes things a lot easier,” Foegele said. “I’m excited about this new opportunity. It’s a different style, something I think will suit my game, and I’m excited to be ready to shake things up.”
