Mandatory Credit: Kiyoshi Mio-Imagn Image Kawhi Leonard scored 23 points, four teammates scored in double figures, and the Los Angeles Clippers ended a three-game losing streak with a 137-117 win over the visiting New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday night.
Jordan Miller scored 19 points, Derrick Jones Jr. scored 17 points, Brook Lopez scored 16 points, and John Collins (head) returned after two games and scored 15 points.
Rookie Jeremiah Fears came off the bench to score a season-high 28 points, rookie Derik Queen added 19 points off the bench, Dejounte Murray had 17 points, Trey Murphy III scored 16 points in his return from a five-game absence with a right shoulder injury and Saddiq Bey had 14 points to lead the Pelicans, who have won their fourth straight win.
Zion Williamson suffered an ankle injury the night before during a 115-105 win at Utah, ending his career-high 35-game playing streak.
New Orleans has played three straight games in four days to begin a six-game road trip.
The Pelicans trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half and by 6 points at halftime, but fell behind 85-84 midway through the third quarter. The Clippers went on an 18-4 run and rebuilt the lead to 15 points before taking a 107-94 lead at the end of the third quarter.
New Orleans scored two points early in the fourth quarter, but LA quickly expanded the lead to 16 points and maintained a comfortable margin for the remainder of the game.
The Clippers scored the first six points of the game and took a 32-15 lead in less than nine minutes. New Orleans was outshot 43-32 in the second half, but they shot 60 percent (25-of-15) from the floor in the quarter.
Los Angeles expanded its lead to 18 points early in the second quarter before Murray’s dunk put the Pelicans up 52-43. The Clippers rebuilt the lead to 18 points, but New Orleans scored the final nine points of the quarter to make it 76–70 at halftime.
