During his time in Jacksonville, Etienne developed into a very good, consistent and dependable running back. Known for his speed, versatility, and ability to make big plays as a runner and receiver, he consistently provided a spark to the Jaguars’ offense.

Replacing that level of production won’t be easy.

Options in the table

With Etienne currently in New Orleans, Jacksonville will need to evaluate several potential paths forward. One option is to give young players already on the roster a chance to take on larger roles in the offense. Teams often hope that backup running backs can develop into full-time starters if given more carries.

Another possibility is to address admissions in the NFL Draft. Running backs can often make an immediate impact as rookies, and Jacksonville could look to bring in a young, explosive player to fill the void left by Etienne. If the Jaguars decide they want a more experienced replacement, free agency may provide a solution.

This decision will be an important one for Jacksonville’s offense. The Jaguars built their system around balance, using the running game to take pressure off Lawrence and open up opportunities in the passing attack. Without Etienne, maintaining balance becomes even more difficult.

The Jaguars now have a pivotal offseason decision to make, including whether to rely on internal options like Bhayshul Tuten, invest in a rookie or bring in another veteran running back. Whatever path they choose could dictate the direction of the franchise’s offense in 2026 and beyond.
