Mandatory Credit: Dale Zanine-Imagn Image Jalen Johnson had 21 points, nine rebounds and nine assists to help the Atlanta Hawks earn their eighth straight win with a 108-97 win over the visiting Brooklyn Nets on Thursday.
Zaccharie Risacher added 19 points and nine rebounds off the bench for Atlanta, which snapped the franchise’s longest winning streak since eight games in March 2021. Nickeil Alexander-Walker had 18 points, CJ McCollum had 14 total points and Onyeka Okongwu had 13 for the Hawks, who trailed briefly in the fourth quarter.
Off the bench, Josh Minott’s 24 points led Brooklyn and Drake Powell had 11 points. Ben Saraf and Noah Clowney each scored 10 points for the Nets, who gave up their 12th game in 14 attempts.
Brooklyn cut a seven-point deficit to one on Clowney’s 3-pointer with 8:27 left and forced an Atlanta timeout. After the Hawks extended their lead to 10, Minott’s third triple put the score at 74 with 3:37 left in the quarter.
Tyson Etienne beat the third quarter buzzer with a trey, cutting the visitors’ deficit to 82-79 entering the final quarter.
Just over a minute into the fourth, Brooklyn took its first lead since the opening period when Saraf’s turnaround hook gave the Nets an 83-82 lead. Atlanta responded with a 10-0 run, including six points from McCollum, to take a nine-point advantage with 8:35 left.
EJ Liddell’s layup got the Nets within five, but Johnson scored nine of Atlanta’s 11-0 spurts to take a 106-91 advantage with 2:08 to play. Risacher’s putback layup with less than a minute remaining sealed the win.
Atlanta built a 17-7 lead on Gabe Vincent’s 3-pointer and Risacher’s 11-0 run. After trailing by nine points after the opening quarter, the Nets closed the gap to three points on Nicholas Claxton’s floater with nine minutes left in the first half.
The Hawks then opened their lead up to 12 points on a putback layup by Risacher and a pullup triple by Vincent. After Alexander-Walker’s 3-pointer gave Atlanta a 57-47 lead, Minott’s buzzer-beating trey cut Brooklyn’s halftime deficit to seven points. Risacher’s 16 first-half points led all scorers and Minott had 10 for the Nets.
