Coach Jamie Dixon inserted the sophomore forward into the starting lineup five games ago, and the Horned Frogs have gone 4-1 since, including a 90-78 win over Arizona State on Tuesday.
TCU, projected to be an NCAA Tournament bubble team, will try to improve its standing against Kansas State in a Big 12 matchup in Manhattan, Kansas, on Saturday.
Robinson is averaging 10.6 points but had 20 hits against the Sun Devils, hitting three 3-pointers to help the Horned Frogs (18-10, 8-7 Big 12) pull away in the second half.
TCU struggled to build a three-point lead, shooting 32.4% (11 of 34) in the first half, but exploded after the break, shooting 53.3% (16 of 30).
“Micah lifted the lid in the second half,” Dixon said. “He hit two 3s and we opened the basket.”
Six of the Horned Frogs’ losses have been by six points or fewer, and three of their losses have come against teams currently ranked in the top five.
Dixon is ranked No. 12 to close out the Big 12 schedule. He knows his team needs a solid win Saturday before visiting No. 16 Texas Tech and hosting Cincinnati.
“This is what this league is.” Dixon said. “It’s not a JV league. We’re in the best league in the country. We have to play well or we’re going to lose.”
The Horned Frogs continue to be led by David Punch, who averages 13.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
The Wildcats (11-17, 2-13) are 1-2 after hiring Matthew Driscoll as interim coach following the firing of Jerome Tang on Feb. 15.
Kansas State lost 79-70 at Colorado on Wednesday. The Wildcats fell behind by 22 points but closed the gap to 73-70 with 2:13 left before the Buffaloes pulled away.
“I think we’re right there and TCU is next,” Driscoll said. “We have very little to fix and if we do that, good things will happen for our future. At the end of the day, players have to make plays.”
PJ Haggerty continues to lead the Wildcats, who are fourth in the nation in scoring, averaging 23.5 points per game. He had 25 points and 10 rebounds for Colorado, both game highs.
