In a call with President Donald Trump on Monday, Russian leaders denied allegations that they were sharing intelligence with Iran during the war, US Special Envoy Steve Wittkoff said.
“So, you know, we can take them at their word,” Wittkoff told CNBC’s “Money Movers” in an interview Tuesday. “Let’s hope they’re not sharing.”
Trump spoke with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on Monday.
Wittkoff was asked in the interview whether he thought Russia was sharing intelligence with Iran about the location of US military assets and, if so, why the Trump administration would waive sanctions that prevent it from buying Russian oil.
“Well, I’m not an Intel official, so I can’t tell you,” Wittkoff replied.
“Yesterday, on the call with the president, I can tell you that the Russians are not sharing,” Wittkoff said. “That’s what they said.”
Wittkoff said he and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner had a separate phone call Monday morning with Putin’s foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov.
Ushakov, in that call, “reiterated the same,” Witkoff said, adding that Russia was not sharing intelligence with Iran.

MS Now, in a report on Saturday, citing two US officials familiar with the situation, reported that Russia was providing Iran with information that would help that nation’s forces strike American ships, aircraft and military bases in the Middle East.
“Russia is providing intelligence assistance to Iran,” an official told MS Now.
Trump blasted Fox News reporter Peter Ducey on Friday for asking him about suggestions that Russia is helping Iran target and attack American forces in the region.
“What a stupid question to ask at this time,” Trump quipped.
An official who spoke to MS Now for Saturday’s article said, “I have not seen anything to suggest that Russia is playing a strategic or tactical combat role.”
At a press conference in Florida on Monday, Trump said that in a call with Putin earlier in the day, the Russian leader was “very impressed with what he saw” of the United States’ progress in the war.
