Specialty Packaging Group (SPG) has opened a new manufacturing site in Austin, aimed at better supporting customers in the southern and mid-south regions of the United States.
The 75,000ft² facility in Northeast Austin is to expand manufacturing capacity for custom engineered packaging.
It will specialize in the manufacture of corrugated and foam packaging with a primary focus on supplying the automotive and technology sectors.
The site features state-of-the-art production equipment, including a rotary die cutter and two-color printing system.
It also marks SPG’s introduction of an automated cold glue system for corrugated materials, with the aim of offering more efficient packaging options based on customers’ specific needs.
SPG indicated that the facility will create job opportunities in the Austin area and work with local vendors and service providers as part of its operating strategy.
With headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, SPG operates throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico, supplying diverse sectors such as aerospace, electronics, medical, and automotive.
“The Austin facility represents a strategic milestone for SPG. The site allows us to better support some of our largest customers, respond quickly to regional demand, and it reinforces our commitment to being close to our customers,” said SPG Chief Commercial Officer Joe Gombis.
“Building this site has been a true team effort. From engaging local partners to building our workforce, we are proud to support the Austin community while delivering the level of quality and service our customers have come to expect.”
The development follows the company’s opening of its facility in Guadalajara, Mexico, in January, expanding with growing demand for crate systems used in transporting technology hardware such as servers for AI applications.
