Spanish La Liga hosts retro matchdays across top two flights – SportsLogos.Net News

The top two flights of Spanish domestic football are set to turn back the clock next month with their first-ever retro matchday.

La Liga announced on Friday, March 6 that the Retro Round matches will be played from April 10 to 13 in La Liga EA Sports in the first division and La Liga Hypermotion in the second division. According to the league, a total of 38 clubs will “take to the field in new kits inspired by iconic designs from the past”, along with special kit designs for referees.

The kit will be released on Thursday, March 19th. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid.

LALIGA Retro Matchday has been designed as a tangible expression of a “living heritage”, transforming the club’s history into an experience felt, celebrated and worn at the stadium. Reinterpreted for today’s competitions, these historic kits build a bridge between generations, connecting the origins of fandom with the way football is experienced today. The initiative integrates football and fashion directly on the pitch, making LALIGA the only one of the five major leagues in Europe to offer this kind of coordinated activation.

Beyond the on-pitch look, Retro Matchday will also incorporate retro-style graphics into the TV broadcast.

“Retro Matchday is a unique opportunity to celebrate our club’s history and the symbols that have shaped generations of fans. It allows us to bring the past into the present, while continuing to build experiences and strengthen a legacy that connects emotionally with our supporters. Showcasing this collection at Spain’s leading fashion week is the perfect platform to project its identity beyond the field and place football at the center of cultural and creative conversations.”
