Amsterdam-based fashion brand Scotch & Soda released a collection this week inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat and showcasing some of the artist’s work. The collection is launched in partnership with the Basquiat estate through global licensing agency Artestar.
Scotch & Soda said in a press release that Basquiat was known for bold paintings depicting dozens of different figures and colors in vibrant and sometimes chaotic compositions that drew inspiration from the “rich culture of New York City” in the 1980s, while Basquiat also drew inspiration from “the vibrant culture of Amsterdam as an ever-evolving source of inspiration.”

The collection, which was first launched last year, is available in men’s, women’s and children’s clothing. The collection includes a blue short-sleeved button-down top, a Breton-striped long-sleeved T-shirt and jeans featuring Basquiat’s signature three-dot embroidery, a gold crown and sketches of human eyes, noses and mouths. Also on sale are T-shirts, hoodies, baseball caps and light blue commemorative jackets, all featuring the Basquiat crown.
The centerpiece of the collection is a series of objects made from prints of Basquiat’s 1987 paintings unbreakablea comprehensive painting featuring different colors, Basquiat’s figures, different types of signage and title words. The brand calls the painting a “natural fit” because it embraces “imperfection and blends street culture with refined craftsmanship. It reflects a confident spirit shaped by experience and strength that comes not from staying intact but from permanence and continuous evolution,” according to a press release.
Pieces from the collection are already available for purchase on the Scoth & Soda website, with prices ranging from a low-end $36 (a T-shirt) and $48 (a ribbed tank top) to $228 (a piece). unbreakable pullover sweatshirt) and the high-end $268 (souvenir jacket).
