AJ Dybantsa also scored 21 points in the game and Kennard Davis Jr. added 16 for the Cougars (21-10, 9-9 Big 12), who overcame a 13-point deficit to win.
The loss dropped Texas Tech (22-9, 12-6) to a No. 4 seed in next week’s Big 12 Tournament.
Christian Anderson led the Red Raiders with 23 points and 9 assists. He finished the regular season with 233 assists, a school record for the season.
Donovan Atwell also had 23 points and Jaylen Petty had 14 for Texas Tech.
Anderson hit a 3-pointer with 1:46 to play to tie the game at 75.
Davis responded with a 3-pointer to give the Cougars a 78-75 lead.
Atwell made one of two free throws with 24 seconds left, but Wright sealed the win with two free throws with 19 seconds left for an 80-76 BYU lead. He added two more eight seconds on the clock for the final score.
BYU finished 31 of 70 (44.3%) from the floor, including 6 of 26 (23.1%) from beyond the arc. Texas Tech shot 46.6% (27 of 58) on field goal attempts and 16 of 35 (45.7%) from long range.
The Red Raiders led 46-38 at halftime behind Anderson’s 15 and Atwell’s 14.
Texas Tech made 12 of 19 3-pointers in the first half, shooting 55.2% from the field.
Of the last 11 field goals scored by both teams in the final 5 minutes and 12 seconds, 9 were 3-point shots, and both teams finished the first half with a 3-point shooting frenzy.
That included the teams trading 3-pointers on their last six shots in the final 1:52 of the first half.
The Red Raiders took a 13-point lead with 7:40 left in the first half when Josiah Moseley hit a 3-pointer and Petty scored on a layup.
Texas Tech had eight points in the paint, three second-chance points and shot 55 percent, including 7-of-11 3-pointers.
By the time Texas Tech was up 31-18, Anderson had already recorded 12 wins.
The Cougars, on the other hand, shot just 29% from the floor.
But BYU got back within single digits when Davis scored five of his 13 first-half points on a layup and a 3-pointer off a tip-in from Khadim Mboup to make it 31-25 with 3:45 left.
