Mandatory Credit: Mitch Stringer-Imagn Images Pass rusher Trey Hendrickson signed with the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday, agreeing to a four-year, $112 million contract less than 24 hours after the team pulled the plug on the Maxx Crosby trade with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Hendrickson has spent the past two seasons in contractual turmoil with the AFC North rival Cincinnati Bengals.
Baltimore had been scheduled to close a deal involving two first-round picks for Crosby management on Wednesday, the first day of the league season, but informed the Raiders on Tuesday night that the trade was halted due to a failed physical. Crosby is coming off knee surgery, but his agent said Tuesday night that he is expected to participate in training camp. This is the schedule shared with the Ravens before the contract was agreed to last week.
After long and persistent resistance with the Bengals, Hendrickson negotiated a one-year salary increase to $30 million in 2025. His goal was to reach the top of the market with a contract extension and produce at the same level as the highest-paid players at the position.
He had 17.5 sacks in 2024, was named first-team All-Pro and finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting. During the 2023-24 season, Hendrickson led the NFL with 35 sacks. Steelers linebacker TJ Watt, who signed a massive 2024 contract extension, came in second with 30.5.
Hendrickson, 31, had just 4.0 sacks last season and injuries limited his availability to seven games. He suffered a core muscle injury in Week 6 and attempted to return too quickly, ending up on season-ending injured reserve.
He underwent core muscle surgery but is expected to be fully healthy when training camp begins.
