Trent Brown is staying in Houston. The veteran offensive tackle agreed to a maximum one-year extension with Texas on Thursday. 7 million dollarsAccording to agent Drew Rosenhaus, who confirmed the deal to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Timing is important here. Houston has been busy reshaping its offensive line this offseason.
The Texans recently agreed to ship starting right tackle Tytus Howard to Cleveland and sent Juice Scruggs to Detroit as part of the deal that brought David Montgomery back to Houston. Neither deal can be completed until 4pm on Wednesday, when the 2026 league year officially begins.
Brown did not start the season on the field. A knee injury kept him out until Week 10, but when he was healthy enough to play, the 6-foot-8, 380-pounder proved that his tackling ability was still there.
He started seven games for Houston last season.
From weeks 10 to 16, Brown 7.1% pressure ratio Right Tackle – Has the 6th lowest pass blocking count among tackles with 200 or more, according to Next Gen Stats. This is solid production from a player who spent the first half of the season rehabbing.
The 32-year-old has been in the league for a while. San Francisco grabbed him in the seventh round in 2015, and he appeared in 110 games (103 starts) over 11 seasons with various teams.
Brown made the Pro Bowl in 2019 while playing for the Raiders. This is proof that he can perform at an elite level when healthy on the field. Houston is clearly expecting him to return to that form as they rebuild their offensive line protection after dealing with two key pieces.
With Howard headed to Cleveland, Brown’s extension provides much-needed experience and stability for the Texans. They’ll need it after trading Scruggs for his former starting right tackle in the same offseason.
