Mandatory Credit: Jerome Miron-Imagn Image Precious Achiuwa scored a career-high 29 points to lead the Sacramento Kings to a 130-121 victory over the host Dallas Mavericks on Thursday.
Achiuwa shot 13 of 19 from the field, including 3 of 3 from 3-point range, and had 12 rebounds.
Maxime Raynaud scored 22 points and Daeqwon Plowden added 19 off the bench.
Naji Marshall scored a season-high 36 points with 10 boards for Dallas, but fell short of its third straight win.
Khris Middleton contributed 17 points and Brandon Williams had 16 points. The Mavericks fell behind by 18 points at one stage and went 21-of-34 from the foul line at a sloppy clip and committed a lopsided 18-5 turnovers.
Williams’ 3-point play with 1:56 left cut the Kings’ lead to 123-121, but it would be the home team’s final points.
Achiuwa responded with a throwback, setting a new personal best, and Plowden buried a three to make it 128-121.
Achiuwa blocked Marshall’s drive before Nique Clifford converted a layup in the closing stages.
Achiuwa had 14 points and seven boards in the opening frame, setting a fast early tempo for Sacramento.
Marshall had 13 points on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting, but the Kings remained in control.
They took a decisive 42-28 lead through separate 11-1 and 12-2 runs after no turnovers in the quarter and a 6-1 advantage on the offensive glass.
Sacramento’s cushion swelled to 56-38 and Marshall led a Dallas rally that cut the gap to 68-56 at halftime.
Marshall scored 23 points in the first half, while Achiuwa totaled 21 points in the main interval.
The Mavericks got hot and stalled early in the third quarter, going on an 11-0 run to cut the margin to 72-69.
The Kings called a timeout and went on an 11-2 run to take an 89-73 lead before Dallas cut it to 100-88 with one quarter remaining.
Marshall opened the fourth with a 12-0, two-minute surge as the Mavs got back within 110-105.
