Pakistani and Afghan forces have been exchanging fire in their conflict along their border, which the United Nations estimates has displaced more than 100,000 people.

Meanwhile, Pakistani security sources said they conducted ground and air operations against military targets, including the Taliban heartland of Kandahar, and destroyed several Afghan border posts.
Both sides regularly claim they have inflicted heavy casualties on the other and killed hundreds of opposition forces without providing evidence.
“The situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan is tense amid active conflict on the border,” the United Nations refugee agency said.
About 115,000 people in Afghanistan and 3,000 in Pakistan are thought to have fled their homes.
Dozens of people gathered in Kabul on Friday and chanted anti-Pakistani slogans against the attack on Afghan territory, an eyewitness said.
A large gathering demonstrated in Laghman province against recent attacks by Pakistan, Bakhtar news agency said.
While the Iran war has diverted the attention of some of the countries that have stepped forward, several countries have begun to negotiate a ceasefire, most recently Turkey.
Pakistani government spokesman Musharraf Zaidi said there were no talks to end the conflict.
“There is nothing to talk about. There will be no dialogue and no talks,” he told state-run Pakistan TV.
“Terrorism must end from Afghanistan – that is Afghanistan’s problem. Pakistan’s responsibility is to protect its citizens.”

The Taliban government said 110 civilians were killed. Pakistan has rejected both sets of statistics, saying it only targets militants and supports infrastructure.
