Washington Commanders delivered a highly successful and fun community activation in Abu Dhabi with the Kullna Commanders youth soccer camp, engaging 200 young participants and their families in an immersive flag soccer experience.
Held on 31 January at the Abu Dhabi Cricket & Sports Hub, the event blended elite-level coaching with vibrant festival-style activities to create an inclusive environment that celebrated sport, athletics and togetherness, while reinforcing the Commandant’s commitment to youth development and grassroots engagement in the UAE.
A perfect blend of energetic exercise and community engagement, the camp was attended by 200 young participants representing 35 nationalities and 51 schools. The diversity of the stadium reflects the UAE’s spirit of inclusion, proving that love for the game knows no borders.
The impact of the event was best demonstrated through feedback from parents and families in attendance.
One parent said, “My kids and I loved the camp. We really hope you’ll come back for years to come through our training program,” while another parent expressed gratitude for the mentorship, saying, “A huge thank you to the coaches who volunteered their time. They really made the event a success.”
Elite Coaching and Festival Fun
The camp featured 10 interactive field exercises designed to strengthen coordination and teamwork. The charge was led by 15 professional coaches trained by legendary coach Tom LaNeve, NFL Flag Football Director and primary author of the Official NFL Flag Football Rulebook.
Off-site, the festive atmosphere was lively as families enjoyed an American-style tailgating experience. The activation area was bustling with activity including:
- A soccer painting station where kids can customize their own gear.
- This is a high-energy smoothie making station that provides healthy refreshment.
- This is an interactive photo booth where you can capture the memories of the day.
- The ever-popular barbecue and drinks station provided a boost to over 250 supporters cheering from the sidelines.
Growing heritage in the country
By combining elite coaching with a welcoming, community-focused environment, Commander Washington has solidified a long-term vision for grassroots development in the UAE. Khulna Commanders Youth Football Camp was more than just a one-day clinic. This was the foundation of a growing community that would continue to move, play and grow together.
