Nick Schmaltz and Clayton Keller had second-period goals and Vitek Vanecek made 16 saves in the Utah Mammoth’s 3-0 road win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday.

Dylan Guenther had two assists and Michael Carcone also scored for Utah, which has won five of its last seven games. Vanecek, making his first start since January 27, recorded his 100th career win (11th shutout).

Dan Vladar had 20 shots for Philadelphia, which snapped a three-game winning streak. The Flyers played without leading scorer Travis Konecny (upper body injury) for the second straight game.

Neither team scored in the first period, when both teams attempted eight shots, four each. The Flyers had a power play late in the session, but were unable to apply much pressure.

Utah received its first power play early in the first period when Noah Cates was whistled for holding his stick. In the ensuing faceoff, Schmaltz took a feed from Guenther and beat Vladar with a one-timer from a sharp angle.

The goal was Schmalz’s 24th goal of the season, having not scored since February 4 before the Olympic break.

Keller made it 2-0 after about six and a half minutes. On an offensive rush, Guenther sent a pass to Keller, who slipped behind the defense. The Utah captain moved to his backhand and pushed the puck into Vladar’s 5-hole for his 19th of the season.

That was enough support for Vanecek, who made a brilliant glove save on Bobby Brink late in the first period and robbed Carl Grundstrom midway through the third period.

Philadelphia had two power plays in the third quarter, but ultimately failed to show anything about the man advantage.

Carcone sealed the win by hitting an empty-netter with 1:48 remaining. He hasn’t scored since January 29th.
