Lewis City SC has never beaten a Southern California team.
LAFC (3-0-0, 9 points) is one of three MLS clubs to start the season with three wins and three clean sheets.
Marc dos Santos’ side are busy after being held to a 1-1 midweek draw against Costa Rican club Alajuelense in the round of 16 of the CONCACAF Champions Cup. After Saturday’s MLS action, LAFC plays the second leg in Alajuelense on Tuesday.
“You have to think about having a new look on Tuesday, but you also have to think about the possibility, the opportunity to get 12 out of 12 points in MLS,” dos Santos said.
Forward David Martinez leads LAFC with two goals in three MLS games, while South Korea’s Son Heung-min has three assists in MLS, matching his total from last season.
Los Angeles is 4-0-2 all-time in MLS games against St. Louis and has given up just two goals in six games.
St. Louis (0-2-1, 1 point) travels to Los Angeles looking for its first win of the season.
St. Louis lost a 1-0 decision to Seattle last weekend and has now gone two games without a score.
“The most important thing is that managing the moment is very important,” St. Louis coach Yoan Damet said. “Understanding small details about efficiency in the moment can impact the outcome of the game. Making sure individuals in those moments are making the right decisions and executing the way we want them to execute.”
German midfielder Marcel Hartel scored the club’s only goal in a 1-1 draw with Charlotte to start this season’s MLS campaign.
Saturday marks the first of two meetings this season. LAFC visits St. Louis on May 13.
