Kansas State hired Belmont’s Casey Alexander as head men’s basketball coach on Friday.

Alexander, who coached his alma mater for the past seven seasons, agreed to a five-year contract with the Wildcats. The deal will earn Alexander $3.3 million in 2026-27, with his base salary increasing by $50,000 each following season.

“I am very excited to join the K-State team and can’t wait to begin my journey,” Alexander said. “K-State has a rich tradition and a very passionate fan base, and I am grateful to (athletic director) Gene Taylor for the opportunity to be a part of that.”

Alexander effectively replaces Jerome Tang, who was fired on February 15. The Wildcats lost 105-91 to BYU in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament on Tuesday, giving them a 12-20 record.

Alexander, 53, led Belmont to a 26-6 record this season and the 2026 Missouri Valley Conference Championship. He has a 166-60 record in seven seasons with the Bruins and a 303-180 record at Stetson (2011-13), Lipscomb (2013-19) and Belmont.

“I am thrilled to announce Casey Alexander as K-State’s next men’s basketball head coach,” Taylor said. “We have had great interest in our profession from a number of talented and successful coaches from all over the country.

“What was evident throughout the search was the positive reputation of K-State basketball, and of all the coaches we spoke with, Casey emerged as the best fit for our program. He is known nationally as a tremendous evaluator of talent and one of the best offensive minds in the college game. He has built and maintained successful and winning programs at Stetson, Lipscomb and Belmont, and his reputation for player development and strong culture all make him a perfect fit for us.”
