August 24, 2025; Detroit, Michigan, USA; Legion XIII’s Jon Rahm hits a shot from the fifth tee during the final round of the LIV Golf Michigan Team Championship at The Cardinal at St. John’s Resort. Mandatory Credit: Aaron Doster-Imagn Image Jon Rahm won his first individual tournament since September 2024 with a three-stroke victory Sunday at LIV Golf Hong Kong with a round of 64.
With Harold Varner III and Belgium’s Thomas Detry heading into his round, Rahm took the back nine with four straight birdies to give himself enough of a cushion to withstand a bogey on the 18th hole. In his final round, he shot 23 under par at the event held at Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling.
Also breaking a long title drought were the 4Aces, led by Dustin Johnson, who shot 58 under par to claim his first team title in 974 days.
Rahm started the season with back-to-back runner-up finishes before lifting the Hong Kong trophy.
“I’m very relieved,” said Rahm, who has won individual titles the past two seasons. “That’s the only way I can explain it. I’ve been very happy with wins in the past. This game felt like a huge weight off my shoulders. That’s all I can say.”
Detry shot a 67 on Sunday to sit in sole second place at 20 under par. Fellow Belgian Thomas Peters (66) was third, one stroke behind Detry, and Varner (69) was fourth at 18 under par. Matthew Wolff (65) was 5th.
With this win, Rahm has won 26 consecutive events without an individual victory, despite the success of the Legion XIII team.
“It’s great to be able to stand on the podium and celebrate with my teammates,” Rahm said. “But obviously, as a competitor, I wanted to do this myself. It feels different. I think it would be a lot more ecstatic to celebrate a win with my teammates like Ace did today, but there’s a sense of self-accomplishment and pride in achieving it on your own.”
4Aces won a team championship in 2022 and two event titles in 2023, but have not won since. But this week was different, with solid finishes from Johnson and Anthony Kim, along with help from Detry and Pieters.
The group finished 16 under par on Sunday, led by Johnson’s 65 and Kim’s 66.
“It’s been a while since we’ve won, especially the way we started and dominated and pretty much won every single event, and when we didn’t win, we finished second the first few years,” Johnson said.
“Obviously since then LIV as a whole the players have gotten a lot stronger and a lot better. The team has gotten stronger, so it’s a lot harder to win. That’s a bit of a factor. I think we’ve put together a really good team this year, so I think we’ll compete every week. So I’m very excited.”
