Mandatory Credit: Kiyoshi Mio-Imagn Image Joel Hofer recorded his fifth shutout of the season and a three-goal second period lead the St. Louis Blues to a 4-0 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday, ending a perfect four-game road trip.
Jimmy Snuggerud had a goal and an assist for the second straight game. Jonathan Druin, acquired from the New York Islanders as part of the Brayden Shen trade on Friday, scored for the Blues, as did Jordan Kyrou and Pius Suter.
Justin Hall, whom St. Louis acquired from Detroit in the Justin Polk trade, added an assist in his NHL season debut with his new team.
Hopper didn’t let a single one of the 22 shots he faced get past him. With his fifth shutout, he broke a tie with Minnesota’s Jesper Wallstedt and Detroit’s John Gibson for second place among NHL goalies this season. The Islanders’ Ilya Sorokin finished a league-high sixth.
Ville Husso stopped 31 shots for the Ducks, who finished a nine-game homestand with a 7-2 record.
The Blues outscored the hosts 13-7 in the opening period despite committing three minor penalties in the opening 20 minutes.
All three goals in the second period came from the right faceoff circle.
Kyrou, who was benched after one shift early in the third period on Friday in San Jose, scored his 15th goal of the season to put the Blues up with 15 minutes, 38 seconds left in the second period. He received a pass from Jake Neighbors at the St. Louis blue line, continued skating into the offensive zone and fired a shot past Husso that found the far post and into the net.
Drouin doubled his new team’s lead with a power play goal midway through the period. It was Drouin’s fourth goal of the season, who also scored in his Islanders debut on Oct. 9, and his first in 38 consecutive games since Nov. 14.
Two minutes later, Snuggerud scored a one-timer off a feed from Robert Thomas, who had scored in each of his last six games.
Anaheim pulled a Husso with more than five minutes remaining, and Suter’s ninth of the season (4:02 left) cemented the Blues’ season-high four-game winning streak.
