The Israeli military has warned it will continue to pursue anyone who becomes Iran’s next supreme leader, following the assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint US-Israeli attack on February 28.

In a post about X in Farsi, the Israeli military warned that it would pursue anyone who tried to name a successor to Khamenei.

“After neutralizing the tyrant Khamenei, the terrorist regime of Iran is trying to rebuild itself and select a new leader. The Assembly of Experts of Iran, which has not met for decades, will soon meet in the city of Qom. We want to tell you that the hand of the State of Israel will continue to pursue every successor and every person who seeks to appoint a successor,” the Israeli military said in a post on X.

“We warn all those who want to participate in the successor selection meeting that we will not hesitate to attack you. This is a warning,” he added.

The Israeli military’s warning came after US President Donald Trump said he was not interested in negotiating with Iran, suggesting the war could end only if Tehran’s military and leadership are eliminated.

“I don’t think there’s anyone left who will say, ‘We surrender,'” Trump says.

Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Trump said the air campaign could make the talks irrelevant if Iran’s leadership structure collapses.

“At some point, I don’t think there will be anyone left who will say ‘We surrender,'” Trump said.

He also refused to rule out deploying US ground troops to Iran, saying the option remains open as the conflict between the US, Israel and Iran continues.

“We haven’t talked about it,” Trump said. “At some point maybe we will. That would be a great thing. Right now we’re just decimating them.”

The US president also said he does not want Kurdish forces in Iraq to launch an invasion of Iran, saying the move would complicate the situation.

“I don’t want the Kurds to come in,” he said. “They are willing to go in, but I have told them I don’t want them to go in. The war is already complicated enough without involving the Kurds.”

The president of the United States made the remarks hours after attending a ceremony at Dover Air Force Base in memory of American service members killed in the early days of the conflict. Trump said their deaths had not changed his position on continuing the war.

“No, we are winning the war by a lot,” he said. “I’m sure it will continue for a while, but I’m very proud of the people.”
