Israel kills father and daughter in Gaza as genocide continues amid widening war | Israel-Palestine conflict news


A father and his daughter have been killed in an Israeli drone strike in central Khan Younis, southern Gaza, as Palestinians suffer amid worldwide attention on the United States-Israeli war on Iran.

Two people were killed early on Saturday morning. In a separate attack in Khan Younis later in the day, another man was killed and a young woman was wounded, Al Jazeera correspondents on the ground said.

Despite the October 11 “ceasefire,” Israeli forces continue to conduct daily airstrikes, artillery shelling, and naval bombardments of Gaza as Israel continues its ongoing genocide.

The pain in Gaza and the occupied West Bank remains acute as the world focuses on the US-Israeli bombing of Iran.

Two additional people were injured in the past 48 hours, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said.

Meanwhile, Israeli army-aligned forces advanced east of Gaza City, with heavy shelling reported in the area. Initial reports said members of the Palestinian police had been abducted.

Israeli warplanes hit several locations east of the Tufa neighborhood near Gaza City, while the Israeli navy fired heavy machineguns and shells toward the Gaza City coast, Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

In the meantime, the Rafah border crossing is closed. Israel shut it down amid attacks on Iran.

The Rafah crossing on Gaza’s southern border was reopened just last month, allowing a limited number of Palestinians to leave for the first time in months, including patients in need of urgent medical care. Thousands have been barred from traveling for treatment.

The Kerem Abu Salem crossing, also known as Kerem Shalom to Israelis, is only partially open for humanitarian aid access under strict restrictions.

Almost all of Gaza’s population of more than two million people have been displaced during Israel’s war on the territory, and the enclave is heavily dependent on humanitarian aid.

In a February report, Human Rights Watch said Israeli sanctions have led to shortages of medicine, reconstruction materials, food and water inside the Strip.

Since the cease-fire in Gaza, according to the Ministry of Health, 640 Palestinians have been killed and at least 1,700 wounded. At least 72,123 Palestinians have been killed and 171,805 injured since October 2023.

Meanwhile, in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported that its teams in Hebron were treating Palestinians injured by live fire near the illegal Karme Tzur settlement built on Palestinian land north of Hebron.

Three Palestinians were injured on Saturday after Israeli settlers physically assaulted them in Ras al-Ahmar area, south of Tubas, Wafa reported. Medical sources at the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said their teams responded to three wounded.

Wafa said Israeli forces launched raids early Saturday in the towns of Khafin and Kafr al-Labad, north of Tulkarem.

A Palestinian man was injured after Israeli soldiers attacked him near the village of Azmut, east of the occupied West Bank city of Nablus.

Palestinians have faced a wave of intense Israeli military and settler violence across the West Bank since the war on Gaza began in October 2023.

At least 1,094 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers in the West Bank since October 2023, according to the latest United Nations figures.
