Alva founded Infinite Fiber Inc. and over the course of 10 years, the company has transformed through the development of industrial-scale end-to-end, textile-to-textile recycling technology into an internationally recognized material innovation platform.
During his tenure, the company received more than €100m in strategic funding from H&M Group, Inditex, Adidas and Zalando, and established €200m ($231m) in long-term merchandising agreements with brands including Patagonia and PVH Corporation.
Helixa said the appointment follows its recent €2 million investment and growth of its global deployment in textiles, luxury goods and other high-value goods.
The Swiss company added that Alva brings operational-scale experience to complement its scientific expertise.
The appointment comes as the apparel and textile industry faces tougher regulations, margin pressure and geopolitical instability, increasing scrutiny over product origin, authenticity and sustainability claims.
Helixa embeds invisible DNA markers directly into materials to provide product-level traceability in supply chains. The company recently launched a DNA-based authentication service designed to enable rapid verification across resale, repair and distribution channels as demand grows for stronger protection against counterfeiting.
“Global supply chains are built on documents and declarations. These systems are increasingly unreliable. Helixa embeds proof into the product itself, creating a scalable layer of trust that works across industries,” Alva said.
Patrick Strumpf, CEO of Helixa, said the appointment supports the company’s next phase of growth.
“We have built deep scientific and regulatory expertise. Petri brings experience in turning breakthrough innovation into industrial adoption. This combination is important as traceability becomes fundamental rather than optional.”
