Damon Stoudamire will not return as Georgia Tech’s basketball coach.

The school fired Stoudamire on Sunday, a day after the Yellow Jackets ended their season with a 79-76 loss to Clemson for their 12th straight loss.

Georgia Tech has an 11-20 overall record and 2-16 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Yellow Jackets finished last in the ACC and failed to qualify for the conference tournament.

ESPN said Stoudamire’s contract is worth $2.6 million and has two years remaining on his contract.

“On behalf of Georgia Tech, I would like to thank Damon for his dedication to the Institute, our men’s basketball program, and most importantly, our student-athletes,” said Athletic Director Ryan Alpert. “He is highly respected throughout the Georgia Tech community and has been a strong representative of the Institute. We wish him the best.”

Stouddyre, 52, has compiled a 42-55 record (19-39 ACC) in three seasons.

He was an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics when Georgia Tech hired him before the 2023-24 season. Before that, he recorded 71 wins and 77 losses in five seasons (2016-21) in Pacific.

Stoudamire, a small guard at the University of Arizona, was drafted seventh overall in the 1995 NBA draft and spent 13 seasons in the NBA with the Toronto Raptors, Portland Trail Blazers, Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs.

He won the 1996 NBA Rookie of the Year Award.

According to Georgia Tech, Greg Gary will serve as interim head coach.

“Georgia Tech men’s basketball has a proud history and is an important part of our athletic department and community,” Alpert said. “We are committed to finding great basketball coaches to build a championship-caliber program, fulfill our mission of academic excellence, and prepare our student-athletes for life after basketball. Georgia Tech’s commitment to men’s basketball is unwavering and we will invest the resources necessary to compete for championships at the highest level.”
