Georgia (20-9, 8-8 Southeastern Conference) achieved 20 wins for the third straight season. The Bulldogs achieved their 16th 20-win season and the 6th time they reached 20 wins in a regular season.
Wilkson led Georgia’s balanced attack with 5-for-11 shots and 4 3-pointers. Somto Cyril scored 12 points, Kareem Stagg added a season-high 11 points, and Justin Bailey and Marcus “Smurf” Millender each had 10 points.
South Carolina (12-17, 3-13) has lost nine of its last 10 games. The Gamecocks were led by Meechie Johnson with 20 points. Kobe Knox and Eli Ellis each scored 12 points.
Georgia took a 10-point lead on Justin Abson’s dunk at the 14:12 mark. The Bulldogs built their lead to 13 points, 37-24, on Stagg’s bucket with 5:57 to play, but South Carolina went on a 7-0 run to narrow the lead to six points. Sparked by a 3-pointer from Wilkinson and another 3-pointer from Millender, Georgia finished the half on a 9-2 run and led 48-35 at the break.
The 13-point lead matches Georgia’s most points scored in an SEC game this season. They led Arkansas by 13 on January 17th.
Georgia pushed its lead to 14 points early in the second half, and South Carolina scored eight points with 15 minutes, 16 seconds left to tie the game at 53-47.
The Bulldogs went on a 10-0 run a few minutes later to open the game. In the game, a windmill dunk by freshman Jake Wilkins, the son of Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins, and four points by Justin Bailey gave Georgia a 16-point lead. South Carolina hasn’t gotten within 12 points since.
With this win, Georgia swept a two-game series against South Carolina. Georgia won its fourth straight win over South Carolina.
