Five killed in Russian attack in Ukraine as peace talks stall amid Middle East conflict | world news


At least five people have been killed and 18 others wounded in a Russian attack on Ukraine, officials said.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said four of the deaths occurred in the Kyiv region Russia About 430 drones and 68 missiles targeted energy infrastructure.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said the overnight attacks targeted energy and industrial facilities and military airfields serving Ukraine’s armed forces.

Another person was killed and three others wounded when Russian-guided bombs hit a residential area in the city of Zaporizhia, officials said.

It comes as US-brokered peace talks between Russia and Ukraine Washington is on hold as it focuses on its military action in Iran.

Mr. Zelensky “Russia will try to use the war in the Middle East to wreak even more havoc in Europe, in Ukraine,” he said in a social media post on Saturday.

“We must fully realize the real level of the threat and prepare accordingly, namely: in Europe, we need to develop the production of air defense missiles – especially the ability to counter ballistic threats – as well as all the systems necessary to truly protect lives,” he wrote.
