Veteran forward Diego Fagundez returned to where his MLS career began in 2011, signing a free agent contract with the New England Revolution for the remainder of the season.

The agreement announced on Friday includes a club option for the 31-year-old Uruguayan for the 2027 season.

Fagundez, the club’s first Homegrown Player, played 10 seasons for the Revolution and also had spells for Austin FC (2021-23) and Los Angeles Galaxy (2023-25). He was named to New England’s all-time team in 2020 and won the MLS Cup with Los Angeles in 2024.

“We are delighted to welcome Diego Fagundez back to the New England Revolution, where he began his career and has established himself as our first homegrown signing,” said Sports Director Kurt Onalfo. “Diego is an excellent addition to our group, bringing a proven track record of attacking productivity, technical quality and deep MLS experience that will strengthen our attack and provide us with more options going forward.”

Fagundez leads all active MLS players with 158 goal contributions (79 goals, 79 assists) and ranks fourth among active players in both goals and regular season appearances (424). He is one of eight players in league history to have both 75 goals and 75 assists.

“When I left New England, I knew one day I wanted to come back here and play for the fans who have supported me since I was a teenager,” Fagundez said. “I feel I have grown tremendously both on and off the pitch over the past few years. I am very excited with my family to return to the club that gave me my first professional opportunity. The Revolution and our supporters have always held a special place in my heart and I can’t wait to take the field at Gillette Stadium again soon, representing the club of my childhood.”

The Revolution opens their home game against FC Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon.
