Ethereum Smart Accounts Coming to Hegota Fork

Ethereum account abstraction or smart accounts with Hegota enhancements will ship “within a year,” Vitalik Buterin said on Saturday.

“We’ve been talking about account abstraction since early 2016,” the Ethereum co-founder said this weekend.

He added that now, “we finally have EIP-8141, an omnibus that encapsulates and solves all the remaining problems that AA (calculation abstraction) was designed to solve (plus more),” and it’s being rolled out this year.

“Finally, after a decade of research and refinement of these methods, it’s all possible to do it in one year (fork Hegota).”

The basic concept is “about as simple as you can get while still having a common goal,” Buterin explained, using “frame trades.”

Instead of a transaction being a single transaction, it becomes a sequence of “frames” that can refer to each other’s data, and each frame can indicate the authorization of the sender or payer of the gas.

The basic principle of cypherpunk Ethereum

Smart accounts with multi-signatures, quantum-resistant wallets and accounts with variable keys work by having a validation framework that verifies and validates the signature followed by an execution framework.

Paying for gas in non-ETH tokens can be done through a “payment contract” or special purpose decentralized exchange that provides Ether (ETH) in real-time without requiring an intermediary, which is a big deal for Ethereum’s ethics, Vitalik said.

“Disintermediation is a basic tenet of Ethereum’s ugly slatepunk: the maximum amount of work you can do even if all the world’s infrastructure except the Ethereum chain shuts down.”

Buterin explained that this was also a big deal for users of the privacy protocol, as it meant they could completely remove the “public issuers” that are a “source of huge UX pain” in privacy platforms like Railgun and Tornado Cash, and replace them with a “common pool.”

Quantum-resistant Ethereum in the pipeline

All Ethereum accounts, including existing accounts, can be put into the same framework and gain the ability to perform batch operations and sponsor transactions, he said.

The founder of Ethereum published his quantum resistance roadmap for Ethereum on Thursday, stating that the four areas of concern are validator signatures, data storage, user account signatures, and zero-knowledge proofs.

He also said he expects to see a “progressive reduction” in both slot times and end times in the long-term roadmap.
