Philadelphia finished the game 2-for-2 in the shootout, with Matvey Michikov also scoring a hit. Toronto scored on a goal by William Nylander, who went 1-for-3 from the field, and Flyers goalie Dan Vladar saved efforts by Auston Matthews and Max Domi.
Nylander’s goal late in the third period tied the game shortly after Noah Cates gave Philadelphia the lead.
Christian Dvorak also scored for the Flyers, who won their third straight title. Vladar made 29 saves through regulation and overtime.
Dakota Joshua had the record for the Maple Leafs, who are 0-3-1 since the Olympic break. Anthony Stolarz made 23 saves.
Joshua scored from the left circle at 15:22 of the first period. Matias Maccelli won the puck in the corner after a dump and passed it to Joshua.
Matthews clicked it off the goal post 1 minute and 13 seconds later.
Dvorak scored a power play goal at 18:38 to tie the game at 1 for the first time since the Flyers filled the net. Brandon Carlo left for a hold.
After Toronto’s offensive, Stolatz kept the score tied by blocking Nicolas DeLaurier’s shot from the left circle at 12:43 of the second period. This was Philadelphia’s best chance of the period.
The Maple Leafs were the better team in the scoreless middle period, and the Flyers often resorted to turning the puck over in their own end.
The Maple Leafs went on a power play just 40 seconds into the third quarter, but ended up with one shot on goal. Cates killed the penalty kick, hitting the left post with a shot.
With the teams tied, Philadelphia’s Travis Sanheim thought he scored when his slap shot hit the right post at 4:04, but the puck didn’t go in.
The Flyers were doing a better job of moving the puck out of their own end and setting up opportunities in Toronto’s zone.
Philadelphia put the pressure on Cates scoring from the left circle on a pass from Bobby Brink at 14:42 of the third.
Nylander tied the game from the left circle during a power play at 17:30. Denver Barkey left to fall.
Philadelphia’s Travis Konecny (upper body injury) was sidelined.
