Pudgy Penguins has launched its long-running browser-based cryptocurrency game Pudgy World.
“Creative freedom without compromise”
In a post posted on social network X on March 10, the CCO and co-founder of Pudgy Penguins, known as Chefgoyardy, announced the long-awaited release of Pudgy World. In this post, he gave a detailed overview of the game design process. “We built custom world-building tools using open-source web technology, giving us a lightweight editor built for speed and quick iteration.”
Self-expression, creative freedom, and community building seem to be the driving forces behind the game, as Pudgy’s ethos is to create “an intuitive experience for everyone, including people who have never played a game before.” The chef added:
Our asset pipeline allows artists to work in Maya, Cinema4D or Blender, while custom Houdini scripts automatically convert everything to a web-friendly format. Creative freedom without compromise.
The game is free, runs in the browser with no downloads, and allows players to explore 12 different cities in “The Berg”, complete quests to help a penguin named Pengu find Polly, and join mini-games as custom penguin avatars.
Crypto Game “Non-Crypto”
First impressions of some players describe the game as “very accessible” because it is designed to “run directly on the PC without a separate installation”. X user Namnin elaborated on the game experience, describing it as a beautiful and very casual game that is “easy to play while doing quests with friends or family”.
When you start the game, you choose your penguin. You can do some basic customization including color, costume and accessories. You will travel the world with this penguin. The main setting of the game is “THE BERG”, a huge map with the concept of an Antarctic island. From here you can travel to different cities. Portal movement is possible. You can complete missions, level up and get items.

An early tester on YouTube, Cagy, called Pudgy World “a very good world” and “probably one of the best crypto games out there right now,” adding that “there’s not much crypto here” and that it’s just like hanging out and playing simple games with friends in a shared world.

A comfortable crypto game
Based on the shared impressions of users and the pictures and videos they provide, Pudgy World can be safely described as a “comfortable multiplayer game” with a friendly aesthetic. This means that you can talk about this game completely without using the word crypto. This fits the leadership of Pudgy Penguins: they have consistently argued that crypto games should be “games first” and use blockchain as an invisible infrastructure to support ownership, coordination and rewards, rather than as a main selling point.
A new era for NFT games
In previous Pudgy games (such as the mobile party title Pudgy Party), Web3 elements such as wallets and NFTs were deliberately hidden: users receive the wallet automatically, but never see seed phrases, tokens or “connect wallet” popups, and the game comes first.
Pudgy World even extends the brand’s toys to the digital unit: physical Pudgy toys come with QR codes that unlock the “Forever Pudgy” sign in the online world, and Walmart shelves are integrated with a layer of the chain’s identity.
After the rise of game-to-earn, many advanced NFT IPs are moving into “Web2-feeling” games where crypto is optional or abstract, from mobile party titles to open-world experiences and competitive mini-games. Pudgy Penguins is part of a broader NFT‑IP that brings together collaboration, mobile games like Pudgy Party, and the growing PENGU ecosystem of toys, games, and community without forcing users through a DeFi-style UX.
