The Conservatives are calling for a parliamentary debate before any kind of Canadian military deployment in the ongoing war in Iran, after Prime Minister Mark Carney said such a deployment was possible.
Conservative defense critic James Bezon says Parliament should have the final say on whether Canada deploys troops in the conflict and accuses Carney of being “all over the map.”

The prime minister originally expressed unequivocal support for the launch of US airstrikes on Iran last weekend – but later did so with “regret” because the bombing campaign appeared to be inconsistent with international law.
Carney said Ottawa has no plans to join the military operation, but he said Wednesday he could not categorically rule out a military deployment if allies called on Canada for help.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte is playing down the idea of an alliance response to Iranian moves, saying no one is talking about such a move after NATO member Turkey reported that the alliance’s defense system had shot down an incoming ballistic missile.
Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand said her parliamentary secretary, Rob Oliphant, had told her days before the US attack that Ottawa does not believe in military action not approved by the United Nations.
