Connor Ingram made 24 saves and Connor McDavid had two assists to lead the Edmonton Oilers to a 4-2 win over the underachieving Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday night in Las Vegas.

Trent Frederic, Vasily Podkolzin, Leon Draisaitl and Kasperi Kapanen scored for Edmonton, which moved to within three points of Pacific Division leader Anaheim with the win.

Jack Eichel had a short-handed goal, Mitch Marner had two assists and Noah Hanifin also scored for Vegas, which lost for the fifth time in its last six games. Adin Hill stopped 15 of the Golden Knights’ 18 shots.

Edmonton, which made two shots in a scoreless first period, took a 1-0 lead at the 3:21 mark of the second period. Evan Bouchard skated behind the net and passed to Frederic, positioned in front of the crease. Frederick then scored the rebound on his first attempt.

Vegas, who wiped the scoreboard after Keegan Kolesar’s goal got the Oilers into the zone, tied the game midway through the period on Hanifin’s first goal since Dec. 9. Hanifin fired a point shot from inside the blue line, but the shot was deflected by Edmonton defenseman Darnell Nurse, who was struggling with Brett Howden in front of the net. The puck went past Ingram’s blocker and into the top left corner.

Podkolzin put the Oilers ahead 2-1 early in the third quarter. After a draw in the offensive zone face-off was blocked by Tomas Hertl, split defenders Jeremy Lauzon and Rasmus Andersson, he broke away and scored, and his wrist shot hit Hill’s right skate and drifted over the goal line.

Draisaitl took a McDavid pass in the bottom of the left circle and then slotted a backhand shot over Hill’s pads to make it 3-1 at 11:53.

Eichel cut the lead to 3-2 with 3:17 to play for his third career shorthanded goal. The Golden Knights pulled Hill for the extra attacker and Kapanen sealed the win when he hit an empty-netter on a McDavid pass with 1:57 remaining.
