Cole Hocker is shown after winning the 3,000m on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at The Armory during the Millrose Games. Cole Hocker kept his career unblemished at the USA Track and Field Indoor Championships, winning the 3,000-meter race by mere seconds on Saturday in Staten Island, New York.
Hocker won the race in 7 minutes, 39.25 seconds at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, beating out fellow Olympians Yared Nuguse and Nico Young. Nuguse finished second (7:39.28) and Young finished third (7:39.29).
Hocker, the 1,500-meter gold medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2025 5,000-meter world outdoor champion, has never lost at a USATF Indoor Championships. He won both the 1,500 and 3,000 in 2022 and the 1,500 in 2024.
“It was just sticking to both Yared and Nico,” Hocker said, according to NBC Sports. “I know they’re both really good finishers. Only two go (to worlds) so I needed one of them because I stayed connected to them.”
This competition is a qualifying event for the World Indoor Championships to be held in Poland from March 20th to 22nd. A country can earn up to two berths per individual event, with a third berth available if the athlete earns a World Indoor Tour wildcard.
Hocker and Nuguse will both compete in the 1,500m on Sunday, when nationals conclude.
Chase Jackson broke the American indoor record and won the women’s shot put Saturday with a throw of 20.44 meters. Jackson, a two-time world champion, shared the previous record of 20.21m and holds the outdoor record of 20.76m.
Zach Bradford recorded a pole vault of 6.01 meters, becoming the eighth American to clear 6 meters indoors or outdoors.
Emily Mackay set a women’s 3000m winning record (8:30.01), just ahead of El Saint-Pierre (8:30.07). Dylan Beard won the men’s 60m hurdles (7.37 seconds) and Alia Armstrong won the women’s (7.82 seconds).
Vashti Cunningham’s run of nine consecutive national indoor titles ended when Charity Hufnagel won the women’s high jump (1.96m). Cunningham took second place with 1.93.
Jasmine Moore (6.86m) won the women’s long jump, and Lauren Harris recorded the fastest time in the 5K walk (22:14.69).
