Bryson DeChambeau shot a second-round 65 with five birdies and an eagle at LIV Golf Singapore on Friday to build a three-stroke lead over the field.

DeChambeau started the round with back-to-back pars, then birdied No. 3 and eagle the par-5 fourth to set the tone for the round. He was 10 under par through 36 holes and left the course after missing a chance for a birdie on the final hole.

“I played really well today. I had a few more opportunities that I didn’t capitalize on, but I played well today and gave myself a lot of opportunities to go down.”

DeChambeau’s three hundred at 7 under are Thomas Detri (Friday’s 67), Louis Oosthuizen (67), Jon Rahm (68), Lee Westwood (68) and Richard T. Lee (68).

Detry finished runner-up to Rahm at LIV Golf Hong Kong last week. He recorded an eagle, the first chip of the second round on the 18th. Detry started from the back of the green and rolled 40 yards out.

DeChambeau avoided an even bigger disaster by hitting his tee shot into the harbor on the par-4 15th. He took a drop and then successfully scrambled to score a bogey.

“I focus on the golf I can control,” DeChambeau said of his approach for the weekend. “I know it’s cliché, but I can’t get too caught up in what other people are doing. Make sure I’m starting on my line the way I need to and puttingts on my line the way I need to. If I don’t, I think I’m giving myself a good chance.”

Rahm recorded par 11 times in a row from the 7th to the 17th hole, and hit a birdie on the par 5 18th hole to record 7 under par.

“I played really well today. I actually felt like I played a lot better than I did yesterday. There was just very little difference,” Rahm said. “I really couldn’t make many putts today. I made a putt on No. 6 and missed a lot of birdie opportunities after that.”

Oosthuizen’s round included six birdies and two bogeys.

“I tried to make as many birdie putts as possible,” Oosthuizen said. “The greens and lines were really good today, and I felt the putter roll was really good.”

Westwood recorded five birdies and two bogeys in his second start back from a wrist injury.

Lee is trying to become the first LIV Golf Wild Card to finish 12th or better in a tournament.

Four strokes behind the leader are Matthew Wolff, Marc Leishman and Charles Howell III.

Crushers GC leads the team with a cumulative 10 under par on Friday, good for a three stroke lead over first-round leader Legion XIII.
