Big Ten Tournament Recap: Donovan Dent Triple-Double Lifts UCLA

Tyler Bilodeau scored 21 points and Donovan Dent recorded the first triple-double in Big Ten tournament history as sixth-seeded UCLA won 72-59 over 14th-seeded Rutgers in the third round of the Big Ten Conference tournament in Chicago on Thursday.

Dent had 12 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds, becoming the fifth player in Bruins history to record a triple-double. Trent Perry also had 12 points and Eric Daley Jr. added 10 for UCLA (22-10).

The Bruins will face No. 3 seed and No. 8 Michigan State in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Reno Mark scored 17 points as the only double-digit scorer for the Scarlet Knights (14-19), whose two-game winning streak was halted.

No. 23 Wisconsin 85, Washington 82

John Blackwell hit six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 34 points as the fifth-seeded Badgers eliminated the 12th-seeded Huskies.

Nick Boyd added 23 points and nine assists for the Badgers (23-9), who advanced to the quarterfinals against fourth-seeded and No. 9 Illinois on Friday. Wisconsin shot 15 of 39 (38.5%) from 3-point range, while Washington was just 7 of 23 (30.4%) from long range.

Freshman Hannes Steinbach had 25 points and 16 rebounds for his 22nd double-double for the Huskies (16-17). Washington’s Zoom Diallo added 24 points and seven assists.

No. 18 Purdue 81, Northwestern 68

Trey Kaufman-Renn and Oscar Cluff each scored 19 points and Cluff grabbed 10 rebounds as the seventh-seeded Boilermakers eliminated the 15th-seeded Wildcats.

Braden Smith set a Big Ten tournament single-game record with 16 assists for Purdue (24-8), which led to a 38-18 advantage in points in the paint. Never trailing, the Boilermakers advanced to the quarterfinals against Nebraska.

Nick Martinelli scored a game-high 25 points and Jayden Reid had 19 points and nine assists for Northwestern (15-19).

Ohio State 72, Iowa 69

Bruce Thornton scored 17 of his 24 points after halftime and Christoph Tilly added 16 to help the Buckeyes beat the Hawkeyes.

Eighth-seeded Ohio State (21-11) overcame repeated criticism from No. 9 Iowa (21-12), which led by 16 points in the second half, and advanced to the quarterfinals against top-seeded rival Michigan. The Hawkeyes missed a pair of game-tying 3-pointers in the final four seconds.

Bennett Stirtz led Iowa with 17 points, while Cam Manyawu and Tavion Banks each had nine. Amare Bynum added 11 points for the Buckeyes. Thornton tied Iowa’s Alvaro Folgueiras for a game-high six rebounds.
