Veteran center Nazem Kadri, a key member of the Colorado Avalanche’s 2022 Stanley Cup lineup, rejoined the franchise via a trade with the Calgary Flames on Friday.

The Flames received a pair of conditional draft picks, a 2027 second-rounder and a 2028 first-rounder, along with the rights to forward Victor Olofsson and unsigned prospect Max Curran.

Calgary, which also parted ways with a 2027 fourth-round pick, agreed to retain 20% of Kadri’s remaining salary, Sportsnet reported.

The 35-year-old leaves Calgary as the team’s leading scorer with 41 points (12 goals, 29 assists) in 61 games this season.

Colorado is the best team in the NHL. That’s because the Avs lead the NHL in points scored and fewest points allowed. Meanwhile, Calgary entered the league standings tied for 30th on Friday.

“I’m definitely very excited,” Kadri told TSN on Friday. “This team is at the top of my list. I’m really excited.”

Kadri signed a seven-year, $49 million contract with the Flames in the summer of 2022 following Colorado’s successful run to the playoffs, during which time he recorded seven goals and 15 points in 16 games.

He achieved career-high scoring with 87 points (28 goals, 59 assists) for the 2021-22 Avalanche en route to winning a championship.

Kadri totaled 319 goals and 751 points in 1,046 regular season games with the Flames, Avalanche and Toronto Maple Leafs, who selected him with the seventh overall pick in 2009 and traded him to Colorado in 2019.

Olofsson (30) scored 11 goals and 25 points in 60 games with the Avalanche after signing a one-year contract worth $1.575 million in August last year.

Olofsson, who previously played for the Buffalo Sabers and Vegas Golden Knights, scored 116 goals and 236 points in 430 career games.
