Yuna Kim recorded five birdies and a double bogey on the 16th hole at Sentosa Golf Club (par 5) to reach 9 under par, one stroke ahead of major champion Lee Min-ji (64 strokes on Friday), Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn (67 strokes), and three-time LPGA Tour winner Hye-ran Ryu of Korea (68 strokes).
The players who recorded 7 under par and 2 strokes in this no-cut tournament were Australia’s Hannah Green (66), Denmark’s Nanna Kosts Madsen (68), Sweden’s Lynn Grant (69), and England’s Mimi Rose (69).
Yuna Kim, who joined the LPGA tour in 2024, is knocking on the door to her first win on the tour. The American has eight top-10 finishes and was runner-up at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship last season.
“I think I’m just sticking to my process. I’m trying to get each shot, win each shot, and win every day,” Kim, 25, said of her strategy ahead of the weekend. “I can focus 100% on every shot and execute every moment to the best of my ability. I will do well.”
Seung-yeop Lee competed with an eagle on the par-4 second hole and six birdies in a bogey-free round.
“I think I just made a few more putts,” Lee said of the difference between his play Friday and his opening-round 72. “I holed out a few long putts and holed out for eagle on the second hole. That always helps me score.”
Jutanugarn recorded six birdies on holes 5-7, including 3 straight shots and 1 bogey.
Ryu Hyun-jin caught four birdies in one round without a bogey, but he was not free from pain.
Ryu Hyun-jin said, “My neck is so bad today that I can’t turn it. It’s so hard on my neck.” “But golf isn’t perfect. If you think about it, you just have to hit the fairway and the green. Yeah, I think that’s good for me. I got a lot of birdies, and yeah, I’m very happy.”
Angel Yin had a low round of the day, posting a 64 to tie for 9th place with Lee at 6 under par.
Defending champion Lydia Go (New Zealand, 72) maintained 2 under par with 4 birdies and 4 bogeys.
World No. 1 Geno Titikul (Thailand) shot 70 and tied for 33rd with 1 under par.
