Third seed Daniil Medvedev won the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Saturday in the United Arab Emirates after Netherlands’ Tallon Griekspoor was sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Griekspoor beat another Russian, fifth seed Andrey Rublev, in straight sets in Friday’s semifinals, but overcame an injury suffered in that match. He said after his win that he would withdraw from the match if he lost the second set.

For Medvedev, this is his 23rd career win and his second in Dubai (2023). This is the first time he has won a tournament for the second time.

He defeated top-seeded Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semifinals and never dropped a set in the tournament.

Germany’s Yannik Hanfmann beat top seed Francisco Cerundolo 6-3, 6-4 in Santiago, Chile, to reach his first ATP Tour finals in six years and put himself in position to win his first title on the tour.

Unseeded Hanfman, who last played the final in September 2020, won 79% of her first serve points (27 of 34), while Cerundolo, who won the Buenos Aires title two weeks ago, was canceled out by 27 unforced errors.

Hanfman (34) defeated second-seeded Luciano Darderi (Italy) and third-seeded Sebastian Baez (Argentina) 6-4, 6-3 in 1 hour and 29 minutes. Darderi saved 4 of 6 break points and Baez had 3 of 7. Baez, the 2024 champion, actually hit more winners (15 to 13) and made fewer unforced errors (29 to 31) and double faults (4 to 5).
