Doctors Without Borders, or MSF, said at least 17 people were killed and 123 wounded in the attack on the town on Sudan’s border with Chad.
Cairo — At least 17 people have been killed and many others injured in recent heavy fighting between warring parties along Sudan’s border with Chad, a medical group said.
Doctors Without Borders, also known as Médecins Sans Frontières, or MSF, said in a post on X late Tuesday that Monday’s attack in Tina left 66 people in critical condition.
The army said in an update that the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, or RSF, had extended its attack on military areas in Tina, but the troops were able to repulse them and force them to withdraw.
The attacks are part of intensified fighting near the border between the Army and the RSF, which have been at war since April 2023. The conflict has killed more than 40,000 people, according to UN figures, but aid groups say the true number could be much higher.
Tina is one of the last areas still held by the Sudanese army in the sprawling Darfur region, which has been under RSF control since October 2025. The nearby Tyne crossing was used as the only route for cross-border humanitarian aid and deliveries from Chad in recent years when the Adre border crossing was temporarily closed.
Chad said last month it closed its border with Sudan “until further notice” in an effort to limit the spread of the conflict on its territory.
MSF teams and Chadian health services treated those injured in Monday’s attack at a new hospital in Tyne, Chad.
MSF staff at the hospital said doctors were treating patients without running water or electricity and relying on generators and solar panels. It is said that due to influx of new patients, the stock of the drug has decreased.
Chad closed its border shortly after Sudan descended into chaos in April 2023, when a power struggle between the military and the RSF erupted into open fighting in the capital Khartoum and elsewhere in the country.
Darfur and Kordofan regions have become the focus of Sudan’s war, with deadly drone strikes frequently reported in Kordofan. Analysts and humanitarian workers have previously said a surge in drone strikes in the Sudanese region of Kordofan has taken an increasing toll on civilians and hampered aid operations.
