Are the Winklevoss Twins Selling Bitcoin Again? Arkham Flags Big BTC Transfer to Gemini

Arkham’s data shows that their PnL in Bitcoin has reached $1.8 billion.

The Winklevoss twins, who have been mostly buzzing about Zcash and Cypherpunk lately, have made a huge BTC transfer to the cryptocurrency exchange they founded ten years ago.

According to Arkham analytics firm, the $130 million transfer to hot Gemini wallets was “probably for sale.”

Their data further shows that the brothers once held about 1% of the bitcoin supply. Earlier reports suggested that they began buying BTC in 2011, buying $11 million of the cryptocurrency at $120 per unit out of $65 million in cash and Facebook stock following a legal dispute with Mark Zuckerberg.

Although they reportedly sold some of their assets to launch Gemini, their estimated PnL in bitcoin remains around $1.8 billion, Arkham added.

They’ve made a number of notable donations over the years, including a multi-million BTC transfer to Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign on the promise that he was pro-Bitcoin, pro-crypto, and pro-trade.

While advocating for more privacy in the cryptocurrency industry, their focus has recently turned to Cypherpunk – a company dedicated to sovereignty.

Cypherpunk Technologies has invested $5 million in Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL), its first technology investment outside of ZEC, according to the company’s latest press release.
