Andy Thomas made five saves to lead the visiting Seattle Sounders to a 1-0 win over St. Louis City on Saturday night, earning his second shutout of the season.

It was the fifth clean sheet of Thomas’ career. For Seattle, starting defender Yeymar Gomez limped off with a leg injury, and Kalani Kosa-Rienzi, who came on as a substitute in the 23rd minute of the first half, scored (2-1-0, 6 points).

The Sounders were playing the second of a club-record five-game road trip while Lumen Field undergoes upgrades to host the FIFA World Cup in the summer.

Roman Berki kept scoreless in two consecutive games and finished with three saves for St. Louis (0-2-1, 1 point), which has only scored one goal this season.

St. Louis controlled the game in the first half, taking a 6-2 lead in shot attempts, including two good scoring attempts. The first came in the 13th minute when Marcel Hartel fired a left-footed shot from the left side of the box that forced Thomas to dive for a dive off the far right post. Thomas also grabbed Cedric Teutzert’s right-footed shot from outside the penalty box in the 27th minute of the first half.

Seattle took a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute of the second half, taking advantage of a turnover by St. Louis midfielder Conrad Wallam. Jesus Pereira intercepted Wallem’s short pass on the left edge of the box and sent a cross to Cosa-Rienzi in the top center of the box. The University of Washington product then fired a left-footed shot past a diving Buckey and into the bottom right corner.

St. Louis, who finished with 60% to 40% possession and attempted eight of 12 shots for the Sounders, pressed for an equalizer in overtime, but Thomas was up to the task, stopping Hartel’s neat right-foot blast from the edge of the box in the 81st minute.
